Buying a used supercar includes taking responsibility for its existing security. Before collection, establish what is fitted, which services are active and who can access them. A device described in an advert is only the start of that conversation.

Before you agree the handover

Ask the seller for the exact tracker and immobiliser product names, available installation documents and the relevant provider's contact details. Check whether a subscription is active and whether it can transfer to you. An app icon, old certificate or working location display does not by itself establish that the required monitoring service is active in your name.

If your insurer specifies a security requirement, send them the details of the equipment already fitted and ask what evidence they need. Obtain their acceptance of the proposed arrangement before relying on it for your policy. Do not assume an existing tracker meets a new policy's conditions.

Transfer tracking access through the provider

Follow the tracking provider's ownership-transfer process. Confirm the new account holder, contact numbers, billing and alert contacts, and ask how access for previous users is removed. Avoid simply taking over the seller's login: it can leave recovery details and account control tied to someone else.

Request clear confirmation of activation and the response procedure. Store the monitoring contact details somewhere accessible without the car. If the car is being transported, ask the provider how its approved transport arrangements work so that you do not create unnecessary alerts.

Review authorised drivers and accessories

Count the supplied driver tags and any emergency accessories against the agreed handover. For a phone-based system, check how administrator access transfers and how old authorised devices are revoked. On systems that support PIN changes, learn the manufacturer's approved procedure and establish your own authorisation securely.

If an accessory is missing, ask the product provider or an authorised installer about replacement and removal of the lost item from the system. Do not accept an unexplained service mode as a permanent solution. Ask for a full demonstration of normal operation before driving away.

Make collection day a practical check

  1. Confirm the security service is active in the correct account.
  2. Check that all agreed authorised drivers have the right access.
  3. Receive the operating instructions and installation documentation available.
  4. Understand service mode and the approved assistance process.
  5. Confirm any remaining activation, renewal or transfer charges.

Have the seller or relevant provider demonstrate the system in a suitable stationary setting. Never test security by attempting to interrupt a moving vehicle. Keep PINs, recovery information and device details private.

When to arrange a security review

If the existing equipment cannot be identified, its service has lapsed, accessories are missing or the previous owner cannot complete the transfer, arrange a review before assuming the car is protected. Existing equipment may be suitable for continued use, need provider attention or warrant replacement after assessment.

Autosecureshop can discuss options for your exact vehicle and the security needs of its new ownership routine. Explore Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche security, or ask about another marque. If collection is imminent, share the date when enquiring; appointment availability is confirmed individually.
